Sitting in the front passenger seat and driving along the expressway, I watched a scene drift past the car window: about ten dead trees in a row, each covered with countless black birds. They definitely weren’t crows—more like cormorants, with long necks—birds I’d never seen before.
The image passed by before I even had time to point it out to the driver. Because of that, no one can verify whether it was real or a dream. It happened as we were passing through the area around Ichikawa, Chiba.
