This painting depicts the sea, mountains, a railing, and a moth. Whenever I visit a town close to the ocean, I feel a strange sensation—between the inorganic buildings, damp air carrying the scent of salt drifts through the streets.
While walking around Shibaura, I was reminded of the view I once saw from a bridge in Busan, South Korea. Onto that bright daytime coastal scene, I layered an imagined image of a nocturnal moth, lightly riding the sea breeze as it flies.
The subtitle text was sampled from the 2021 film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal.
