TOMITA Natsumi「New Journey」
Mar 16 — 28, 2026
Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to present TOMITA Natsumi's solo exhibitions of new works entitled New Journey. Tomita’s animal sculptures are made of metal wastes such as bicycle parts, kitchenware and home appliances. The largest works are about 2 meters tall, and some even use chairs with casters as their base, allowing them to be moved around. By her hands, discarded materials that have served their original purpose are reborn as new creations, and start their new journeys. 16 new works are on view currently.
Born in 1986, Tomita graduated from the oil painting course of Tama Art University, Tokyo. Tomita joints waste materials, such as scraped metal and plastic waste, together to give them another life as animal sculptures. She also creates human figures using newspapers and magazines which are the media reflecting trends and social phenomena of the times. Her recent solo exhibitions in museums include Hiroki Oda Museum of Art (Fukuoka, 2025), Nakamuraya Salon Museum of Art (Tokyo, 2022), The Yamazaki Mazak Museum of Art (Nagoya, 2020), and The Sato Museum of Art (Tokyo, 2013) among others.
