Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to present NAKAIGAWA Yuki's solo exhibition entitled Sleeping Underground. Nakaigawa makes large-scale ceramic sculptures which consist of numerous parts jointed by bolts. Her recent interest is in making similar but slightly different shapes and place them side by side or arrange them in stacks. The collection of those shapes seems as if they are living creatures and has mysterious presence. In this exhibition, approximately 25 small sculptures with holes covering the surface will be exhibited. The shape in her previous exhibition, large sculptures with a large number of hemispherical depressions covering the surface, seems to continue in these new works.

Nakaigawa (b.1960) received her M.A. from Tama Art University in Tokyo in 1986. Her sculptures are in collections of many museums including Ibakaraki Ceramic Art Museum in Japan, World Ceramic Exposition Foundation in Korea, Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and Minneapolis Institute of Art. She also works on commissioned works for public and private clients. Her exhibition history includes Commemoration of Publication of NAKAIGAWA Yuki: Hiding in the Forest (2023, Galerie Tokyo Humanité bis), Interplay: 14 Artists’ Expression and Perspective (2023, Tsukuba Museum of Art, Ibaraki, Japan), Contemporary Japanese Crafts (2013, The Morikami Museum, Miami), Artist File 2011: The NACT Annual Show of Contemporary Art (2011, The National Art Center, Tokyo), and Soaring Voices: Contemporary Japanese Women Ceramic Artists (2007, a travelling exhibition around Japan [Shiga, Tokyo, and Shizuoka] and to France and USA) among others.
