rin art association is pleased to present “Fiction beyond the Real,” a solo exhibition by Kumi Kaguraoka.

This exhibition, “Fiction beyond the Real,” is an attempt to explore the space between fiction (imagination) and the real (reality). Fiction and the Real are not dichotomous in nature, but always permeate each other, coming and going.
For example, ancient Greek temple architecture and sculptures, religious paintings in Catholic churches, myths, and the Bible, art used to function as a "device to transform fiction into reality. The stories told eventually took root in people's minds as real, becoming part of their collective unconscious and forming the basis of their aesthetic sense and sense of values.

“The ‘reality’ we have believed in and seen is not ‘truth’ but ‘fiction’. If information such as values and common sense have been constructed by being shared by the collective unconscious, then we can make any fiction a reality. “
ー Kumi Kaguraoka

This exhibition is an attempt to shake up the structure of the real that we have unconsciously believed in through the fictions that Kaguraoka “tells with a straight face,” and is a prototype for a new reality. It gently brings to light the “faint contours” that lurk between you and the world and that have yet to be put into words.
Please come and explore the exhibition.
