ADF Art Gallery Project Vol.46 | Photographer and Artist Hiroaki Konishi Solo Exhibition “peripheral portraits”
Aug 7 — 26, 2026
ADF (NPO Aoyama Design Forum) is pleased to present the 46th installment of the ADF Art Gallery Project, peripheral portraits, a solo exhibition by photographer and artist Hiroaki Konishi, on view at GARDE Gallery in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, from August 7 to August 26, 2026. An opening reception will be held on August 7, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and all visitors are welcome to attend.
Through his artistic practice, Konishi has consistently turned his attention to those who exist at the margins of society—those overlooked, forgotten, excluded, or marginalized. He has also explored the physicality of beings that exist beyond language, investigating their expressive potential through the medium of photography.
In this exhibition, Konishi further expands this perspective, engaging with forgotten places and objects, the quiet voices of children and animals, and even invisible presences that resist definition.
As viewers trace the artist's attempt to perceive what cannot be seen, the notion of the photographic portrait gradually unfolds into a broader interpretation, evoking landscapes and sensations that are often left behind in the process of becoming adults.
Suspended between dream and reality, the new body of work is imbued with both tension and subtle unease. Rooted in the artist's personal memories while resonating with a sense of universality, the exhibition also features his first video work. Visitors are invited to experience the quiet yet uncanny atmosphere that permeates the series.
