CON_ is proud to present the solo exhibition "P-L/R-A/E-Y" by MES, featuring new works from July 6th (Saturday) to July 28th (Sunday), 2024, at CON_ (Maruka Building 4F, 2-2-14 Nihonbashi Bakurocho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).

English title: P-L/R-A/E-Y

MES is an artist duo consisting of Takeru Arai and Kanae Tanikawa, who independently work in both contemporary art and the club scene.

This exhibition features installations and performances using light, heat, and wax, which MES has invented and defined as "live-engraving." MES’s ongoing concerns and practices, as reflected in the title "Prayer / Play / Masochistic Act [P-L/R-A/E-Y]," manifest and disappear in the space as a continuum of modest actions. These actions evolve over time, offering a unique experience to each viewer.

Additionally, this exhibition attempts to reconstruct "WAX P-L/R-A/E-Y," which was presented at "QiPO 2024" and "URBAN GAZE" in Mexico City this February. This reconstruction serves as a kind of ritualistic lament, exploring themes of intimacy, resistance, and submission.

Please visit to witness the current state of these artists, who bring forth "forms" from the structures of society and language, starting from their own physicality.
