Exhibition: 咲み ‘emi’

What kind of person bears a beautiful "emi"—a blooming smile?

It is someone who has overcome countless hardships and adversities, and who now radiates a gentle, graceful smile that enfolds others with tenderness. That smile is the very embodiment of “spring’s blessing”—like a life-giving rain. After enduring the harshness of winter, it is a blessing offered to all lives that have perished and those that have survived through the passing of seasons.

[Cherry Blossom’s Gentle Rain]

[Breath of Life]

The exhibited works are inspired by Mōrōtai, a technique in traditional Japanese painting. Using classical mineral pigments such as ultramarine (gunjō) and verdigris (rokushō), they depict cherry blossoms and the breath of spring. Washi (Japanese paper) serves as the support material, into which mineral pigments, earth, and iron sand are uniquely blended during the papermaking process, creating layered compositions. Following this, Rakusui, a traditional Japanese papermaking technique, is applied. The impact of the falling water reveals the colors of the lower layers, bringing forth hidden hues.
