Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to present works of MIYAZAKI Shin from the gallery collection. Miyazaki was detained in Siberia for four years after World War II and used as forced labor in harsh condition with many other Japanese prisoners. This experience is the starting point of his creation, however, his works are not dark or oppressive, but rather, they are filled love and passion and attempt to get to the root of life.

Miyazaki (1922-2018) received the Yasui Award in 1967 for his painting of itinerant performers. In 2004, he was selected as a representative of Japan to the San Paulo Biennale and his dynamic collage of gunny sacks were highly recognized. Miyazaki’s solo exhibitions in museums include Shunan City Museum of Art and History in his hometown (2022, 2015, Yamaguchi, Japan), Tama Art University Museum (2017, 2009, Tokyo), The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama (2014, Kanagawa, Japan), Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum (2011, Japan) among others.
