Welcome to the Y2K Space

Shop rin art association is pleased to present “Welcome to the Y2K Space”.

This exhibition will feature futuristic design furnitures that were perceived fashionable from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s, which is classified as Y2K.

In fashion and music, there has been a Y2K revival in recent years.

Y2K is a term used to describe the overall fashion and culture of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

What kind of views can be created by reconsidering the future that creators imagined in the past from the perspective of the present?

Karim Rashid (1960 - ) is an Egyptian-born designer. “Love Seat” is his masterpiece, designed for Veuve Clicquot, a French champagne brand. The glass fiberglass seat is reminiscent of pink petals, and an ice bucket sits in the center.

“The traditional French love seat of the 18th century did not allow a man and a woman to sit next to each other,“ says Karim, ”but rather to sit back-to-back and whisper love into each other's ears with their heads slightly turned back without direct physical contact. “

The works weave a context extracted from the cultures and customs of past history into a new era, while foreshadowing a bright and hopeful future.

In the past, various designs were created to consider the future, but each work of art always has its own character of its own time.

Will designs created in the present world produce such creations filled with hope for the future?

We hope that this exhibition will provide an opportunity to consider the differences in hope and brilliance between the future of then and the future of now.
